Two Projects of CRBC Win ENR 2019 Global Best Projects Awards

Date: 07/13/2019

On the morning of July 7 (July 6 local time), the Engineering News-Record (ENR) announced the result of its Global Best Projects Awards in the year of 2019. Two projects of CRBC were among the list. The Thies-Touba Toll Expressway Project in Senegal won the Global Best Project Award (Road/Highway) and the Maputo Bridge and Link Roads Project in Mozambique won the Award of Merit (Bridge/Tunnel) (no Best Project Award for this category).

This is ENR’s 7th annual Global Best Projects competition. None of the entries could participate if they had any construction-related fatalities, and construction had to be complete between January 1, 2018 and April 30, 2019. As announced, a total of 32 projects located in 20 different countries around the globe won the Global Best Project Award or Award of Merit in 17 categories including airport, highway, bridge, tunnel, etc.

This is the second time that CRBC has won this international honor after the Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project won the Global Best Project Award (Railway) in 2018. It is worth mentioning that CRBC won two awards this time! It is reported that the panel of ENR looked at projects in many markets, examined safety performance, innovations, challenges, and design and construction quality - with a special emphasis on the diversity of global project teams and their collaboration, and also considered how the project benefits the local community and/or the construction industry. This award once again demonstrates the excellent international project management ability of CRBC and further enhances CRBC’s global influence.

Thies-Touba Toll Expressway Project in Senegal

With the total length of about 114km, the Thies-Touba Toll Expressway connects Thies and Touba, two important cities in Senegal, with its construction and operation tasks undertaken by CRBC. Commenced in 2016 and completed 9 months ahead of schedule in December 2018, it is the largest monomer project constructed under the economic and trade cooperation between China and Senegal, as well as the largest monomer infrastructure project in Senegal since its independence.

Crossing the Maputo Bay, the Maputo Bridge in Mozambique becomes the largest suspension bridge in Africa for its 3km total length and 680m main span. With CRBC as the EPC contractor, Maputo Bridge and Link Roads Project was commenced in June 2014 and opened for traffic in November 2018. The bridge effectively connects the north and south banks of the Maputo Bay and serves as a vital communication line between southern Mozambique and South Africa.
