CRBC Releases the First Overseas Project CSR Report of Chinese Enterprises in Kenya

On March 24, CRBC released 2015 CSR Report on Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project (hereinafter referred to as “Report”) in Nairobi, capital of Kenya. This is the first overseas social responsibility report of Chinese enterprises with a project as the carrier. Wilson Irungu Nyakera -permanent secretary of Ministry of Transport of Kenya, Shen Jianguo - senior advisor of United Nations Human Settlements Programme, CCCC President Assistant Wang Jian, CRBC Chairman Wen Gang and representatives of government officials of Railway Bureau, Land and Resources Bureau, Wildlife Protection Bureau of Kenya attended the press conference.

This project comprehensively reviews and summarizes the social responsibility idea, management and practice performance of Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project in the past year from six aspects – quality management, safety monitoring and control, environmental protection, care for employees, local elements and charity. Through the formal release, it openly and sincerely communicate with all sectors of society to enhance the project management level and responsibility fulfilling capability, cultivate the social responsibility atmosphere and promote the deep integration and common development of the enterprise and local society.

According to the Report, when fulfilling the environmental responsibility, Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project did not only strictly observe the local environmental protection laws and regulations, creatively integrate the environmental protection idea into various links of engineering design, construction and management and try to build Mombasa-Nairobi SGR a green, environment-friendly and ecological railway, but also actively organized and participated in various environmental protection charity and relief activities, such as rescuing the wild elephants caught in mud and organizing the garbage collection activity in the national park and so on, which got warm response and worldwide acclaim of all sectors of society. In the field of fulfilling employee responsibility, Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project actively promoted the local employment, safeguarded the legal rights and interests of employees, and created “three-layer training system” to create career development channel for the employees and reserve senior railway talents for Kenya. In the meantime, Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project, starting from the local demands, adhered to openness and cooperation, helped the local partners to improve the production techniques and enhance the technical standards, which drove the local industry development and made the project construction really benefit the society and people of Kenya. So far, the project has carried out cooperation with 934 local suppliers and realized complete local purchase in some building material fields. Through the effective measures in various aspects, Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project comprehensively fulfilled the corporate social responsibility and made positive contributions to the local economic and social development of Kenya.

At the press release site, when accepting the interview of Chinese and foreign media, CRBC Chairman Wen Gang said that integrating the responsibility idea into the operation and management of the Company, really fulfilling the corporate social responsibility and carrying out relevant practices were the guarantee for the enterprise to realize its own value and achieve the sustainable development. Only through full communication and understanding, can we realize cultural integration, then help the enterprise to smoothly cooperate with the local interested parties and finally realize the sustainable development of the enterprise.

“We hope to reach deep and smooth understanding with the interested parties through the release of this Report and then make joint efforts to promote the successful implementation of the project and get actual improvement and breakthrough in the responsibility fulfilling capability aspect,” said Sun Liqiang –CRBC Vice President and General Manager of Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project in his speech. At the same time, he shared the following experience in fulfilling social responsibility with the guests present at the site: firstly, closely combine the social responsibility activities and project construction and find the interest integrating point; secondly, carry out the social responsibility activities based on the local culture to get more widespread social influence and support.

At the press conference, all interested parties of the project and all sectors of society highly recognized the awareness and practice of Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project in comprehensively fulfilling the social responsibility, and considered this press conference as a witness to CRBC comprehensively leading the social responsibility work of Chinese enterprises in Kenya.

And this project social responsibility report shows the real concern and deep understanding of CRBC about the corporation social responsibility and also sets the standard and sample for other enterprises,” said permanent secretary Nyakera of Ministry of Transport, speaking highly of this press conference.
