Introduction of Multinational Rwanda-Burundi Road Project LOT4: Mwityazo-Ruvumbu (24.4km)&LOT5: Ruvumbu-Kibuye (41.6km)

Completed section of the Project

Multinational Rwanda-Burundi Road Project LOT4: Mwityazo-Ruvumbu (24.4km)&LOT5: Ruvumbu-Kibuye (41.6km) is located in NYAMASHEKE City and KARONGI City, which KARONGI City is the capital city of the western province of the Republic of Rwanda. The project is the main thoroughfare of economic, trade exchanges and tourism for the East Africa along the Great Lakes region, and also belonging to the fourth and fifth tenders of Rwanda, Congo (DRC) and Burundi along the Kivu Lake Multinational Highway Project.

The project is invested by Export-Import Bank of China and the client is the Rwanda Transportation Development Agency, with a Canadian CIMA consulting firm. The total length of the project is 66Km, the design speed is 40Km/h, the roadbed standard width is 12m, the traffic lane width is 7m, with the asphalt concrete layer on the whole road. In addition five new bridges are built along the project.

 

Completed section of the Project

The project was officially launched on July 29, 2013 and was successfully completed on April 30, 2016.

As the project adjacent to the Lake Kivu, after the opening of the road, it is immediately promoted to be the most beautiful road in Rwanda.
