Date: 06/23/2020

On June 18, the left hole of the first tunnel (Tunnel 3) in the Ubisa-shorapani section (F3 section) of the E60 Highway in Georgia, which was undertaken by CRBC, broke through smoothly.

Irakli, First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure and Head of the Highway Bureau of Georgia, attended the opening ceremony, and more than 60 representatives of the Highway Bureau, supervision unit and cooperation unit of Georgia jointly witnessed the breakthrough of the tunnel. Irakli congratulated on the smooth breakthrough of Tunnel 3, and thanked CRBC for supporting the anti-epidemic work in Georgia and ensuring the orderly progress of production during the outbreak.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, hundreds of Chinese technical workers of the Project could not return to the field on time. The Project Department has strictly implemented various epidemic prevention and control measures on the one hand; and on the other hand, through the introduction of large-scale specialized construction machinery and equipment, the increase of local teams and local employees, and the overall strengthening of safety management and other pertinent measures, it has achieved substantial results, ensuring the overall stability and controllability of the production, epidemic prevention and safety situation of the Project. After 128 days of fighting by the staff of both Chinese and Georgian sides, the left hole of Tunnel 3 broke through 22 days in advance.

The E60 Highway of Georgia connects the capital Tbilisi to the port city of Batumi, it runs through the eastern and western part of Georgia, and is an important section connecting the main traffic route between Asia and Europe, which will greatly relieve the traffic pressure of the existing section of E60 after completion. It is of great significance for Georgia and its regional development since it will greatly shorten the time of passenger and freight transportation between Tbilisi, Batumi and Poti, and bring numerous employment opportunities. The F3 Section undertaken by CRBC has a total length of 13.05km with two-way four lanes and a design speed of 100km/h. The landform of the Project is mainly mountains and steeps, and the bridge-tunnel ratio of the whole line is 76.7%. It is the most critical section of the E60 Highway Project.
