Submarine Pipelines of KOT Project in Mombasa Port in Kenya Put in Place

On September 25, the submarine pipelines of KOT Project in Mombasa Port in Kenya were successfully dragged and accurately put in place, marking a new milestone of the Project.

Measuring a total of 1,241m, the submarine pipelines of KOT Project in Mombasa Port in Kenya comprise five pipelines and weigh about 5,000t, with the shore end as the landing tower and offshore end as the platform tower. The pipelines were laid by dragging the pipes to the sea via onshore steel rail track and towering from the bottom underwater, with a total dragging mileage of 3.3km. Thanks to the joint and unremitting efforts of the Project Department, the pipelines were successfully and accurately put in place 30 days ahead of schedule despite harsh conditions, laying solid foundation for subsequent construction.

The Project involves the construction of four offshore berths and oil transmission pipelines, functioning for import and export transshipment of crude oil, heavy oil, gasoline, diesel oil and kerosene. As the first world-leading modern oil & gas handling terminal in Kenya, the Project will drive the vigorous development of upstream and downstream enterprises in Kenya and empower the country’s rapid economic development.
