Date: 10/01/2021

On September 27, the China Civil Engineering Society 2021 Academic Annual Conference and the 18th Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize Award Ceremony was held in Changsha, Hunan Province. The “New Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway Project in Kenya” submitted by CRBC won the Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize, being the only overseas engineering project among the prize-winning projects. CRBC Vice President Li Gang attended the conference and accepted the prize as the representative of the prize-winning organizations.

The Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway Project in Kenya is the first international trunk railway completely applying the Chinese standards, equipment, as well operation and management modes. The Project has innovatively created the full industry chain business mode featuring “railway network planning + investment and financing + construction + equipment procurement + operation & maintenance + talent cultivation” and established the technical index system that applies the regional materials for railway concrete works. The Project has also systematically formed the standard gauge railway construction standard system covering the design, construction, acceptance, operation and maintenance, and developed the complete set of technologies for protection of national parks and other ecological environments where the railway crosses.
