CCCC CSR Report 2016 and Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project CSR Report 2016 Are Released in Kenya

The Release Ceremony of CCCC CSR Report 2016 and Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project CSR Report 2016 was held in Nairobi, Capital of Kenya on May 29 local time when the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway (“Mombasa-Nairobi SGR”), the first railway in Kenya over the past century is about to be opened for traffic. The release ceremony is aimed to further summarize the experiences, better perform the corporation social responsibilities, achieve the win-win development, and lay foundation for the long-term and sustainable development of Chinese enterprises in abroad.
 

Representatives from China and Kenya Jointly Release the CSR Reports

The release ceremony was presided over by Yao Yanmin, Director of CCCC Working Dept. of Party Committee. Among the attendees were his Excellency Liu Xianfa- the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, Chen Fenjian- President of CCCC, Chen Yun- Vice President of CCCC, Song Hailiang- Vice President of CCCC, Lu Shan- Chairman of CRBC, Sun Liqiang- Executive President of CCCC Overseas Business Department and General Manager of Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project, CRBC Vice President Li Qiang, Paul Maringa Mwangi- Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development of Kenya, Richard Berryo Kipsang- Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Education of Kenya, Geoffrey Wahooku- Direction of Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Liu Ning- Alternate Representative of China to UNEP, etc.

In his address, his Excellency Liu Xianfa- the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya recognized the great achievements made by CCCC and CRBC for Kenya, and noted that performance of CSR is an inevitable choice for the better development of Chinese enterprises “going global” and project locations. In recent years, Chinese enterprises and citizens in Kenya unite together to actively perform their social responsibilities, and have obtained a series of tangible achievements, driven the local employment, improved the technological levels, and promoted the local social and economic development.

CCCC Vice President Chen Yun introduced the vision, development concepts and achievements in performance of social responsibilities of CCCC. He noted that CCCC always pays attention to give back to the society, actively enhances the communication with the interested parties, enhances the mutual understanding, and pursues multi-win and shared values, while seeking sustainable development. In the future, CCCC will continue to give response to the “Belt and Road” Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, adhere to the development concept of peace, prosperity, openness, innovation and civilized development, act as a qualified enterprise citizen, create bigger values for the interested parties, and made greater contribution to the long-standing friendship between China and Kenya.

CRBC Chairman Lu Shan introduced the performance of social responsibilities by CRBC from the aspects of quality first, green development, win-win cooperation, people foremost and integration into community. Up to now, a total of over 18,000 technical and management talents in various disciplines and 2,000 railway talents were cultivated and trained for Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project, and 100 Kenyan students have been sent to colleges and universities in China to receive the railway-related undergraduate education sponsored by Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project. Moreover, Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project has organized and attended over 220 social activities. Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project always gives back to and benefits the Kenyan people with concrete actions. He pointed out that CRBC will further cooperate with the interested parties to make improvement and breakthrough in performance of social responsibilities, and make continuous contributions to local social and economic development.

Paul Maringa Mwangi- Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development of Kenya addressed the release ceremony, and noted that it is learnt from over 934 local cement and timber manufacturers and equipment suppliers that Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project significantly increases their sales. Over 300 subcontractors participated in project construction, and more than 34,000 local residents received the occupational and post trainings in project implementation. All these fully reflect the tremendous contributions made by Chinese enterprises for local economic development. With strong expertise and competitiveness, CCCC and CRBC are the preferred partners of Kenya.
   
At the release ceremony, five think tank experts of Kenya from Renmin University of China, Fudan University, Ji’nan University and University of Nairobi had a seminar on the opportunities and challenges brought by the “Belt and Road” to offer advices and suggestions for the long-term cooperation between and development of China and Kenya. Many local media, Xinhua News Agency, CCTV, CCTV International, etc. reported the release ceremony.
   
As the main force of the first batch of large state-owned foreign trade enterprises and international engineer project contractors going global, CRBC is the platform and portal for the overseas businesses of CCCC, an important participant and implementer of the “Belt and Road” Initiative, and has set up functional agencies in over 60 countries and regions. The Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project in Kenya undertaken by CRBC is a flagship project of Kenya to achieve its 2030 National Development Vision and the largest livelihood project in Kenya over the past century, with great significance for the connectivity and social and economic development of East Africa. In the whole process from design, construction to operation, CRBC fully considers the impacts on the interested parties, show respect for human rights, obey the laws and regulations, follow the international code of conduct, apply local elements, and provide guarantee for the Project to give full play to its functions in promoting the economic development, protecting the environment and maintaining harmonious social relations. Up to now, Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project has organized and attended all kinds of social activities locally, including drilling waters well for residents along the line, fund donation and student assistance, road rescue, construction of local roads, protection of wild animals, participation in public activities, benefiting the Kenyan people with concrete actions. Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project released the first overseas project responsibility report of China in 2016, i.e. Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project CSR Report 2015, which is well-reputed by the society.
