Mombasa-Nairobi SGR is Successfully Completed, Whistling for Railway Network Construction in East Africa

On May 31 local time, the first passenger train of the Mombasa-Nairobi SGR undertaken by CRBC successfully departure from Mombasa West Station, marking that successful completion and operation of the first overseas railway construction in complete accordance with Chinese standards.
On that day, Mombasa West Station was decorated with colored flags, and local residents organized various activities to celebrate this grand occasion. Among the attendees were his Excellency Wang Yong- special envoy of President Xi Jinping and State Councilor, Kenyataa- President of Kenya, Lutto- Vice President of Kenya, Huang Shuxian- Minister of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, Zhang Ming- Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yang Yudong- Vice Minister of the Ministry of Communications and Director General of the State Railway Administration, Wang Wenbin- Vice President of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, Liu Xianfa- the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, Liu Lian’ge- President of Export-Import Bank of China, Chen Fenjian- President of CCCC, Chen Yun- Vice President of CCCC, Song Hailiang- Vice President of CCCC, Lu Shan- Chairman of CRBC, as well as about 1,000 guests from SASAC, NDRC, various construction companies, partners, mainstream media from China, and all social circles of Kenya.
His Excellency Wang Yong- special envoy of President Xi Jinping and State Councilor noted in his address that Mombasa-Nairobi SGR is not only a project representing the long-standing friendship between China and Kenya, but also a cooperation project featured by mutual benefit, prosperous development, ecological and environmental protection. Construction personnel from China and Kenya created a new miracle in the construction history of Kenya via sincere cooperation and unremitting efforts, and Mombasa-Nairobi SGR is believed to significantly accelerate the rapid development of Kenya. Currently, the transport infrastructure projects under the cooperation of Kenya and China are rapidly accelerated, and both parties get ready for the extensive cooperation in such fields as industrial park construction, agricultural products processing, light and textile industry, energy and electricity, so as to create an example for the acceleration of the trading and traffic integration in East Africa. This will promote the cooperation between China and Kenya, further expand the “Belt and Road” to the hinterland of Africa, accelerate the development and modernization process in Africa, and benefit the residents in Middle Africa.
His Excellency Kenyataa- President of Kenya noted in his address that the construction team of Mombasa-Nairobi SGR is the best team he had ever seen. He appreciated the quality, speed and scheme for Mombasa-Nairobi SGR achieved by CRBC, and spoke highly of the win-win cooperation between China and Kenya during construction.
With a total length of about 480km, Mombasa-Nairobi SGR is the initial section of the railway network in East Africa, and is constructed by CRBC under CCCC as per the standards for Class I railway in China.
As a key project for Sino-African Cooperation and the “Belt and Road” Initiative, Mombasa-Nairobi SGR is a flagship project of Kenya to achieve its 2030 National Development Vision, which are completely adopted with Chinese elements from standards, equipment and technologies to the management systems, exploring a new model for the overseas cooperation in the whole industry chain in China’s railway industry.
