Kenya President Inspects Nairobi-Malarba SGR Project and Attends ICD Handover and Operation Launching Ceremony

On December 16, Chen Yun- Deputy Secretary of CPC CCCC Committee, as well as CRBC Chairman and Secretary of CPC CRBC Committee Lu Shan accompanied Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta to visit Ngong Tunnel Construction Site of Nairobi-Malarba SGR Project (Phase I) for inspection, and attended the ICD Handover and Operation Launching Ceremony.

Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta inaugurated the completion of ICD Project. CCCC Deputy Secretary Chen Yun handed over the “key” indicating the completion of ICD Project to President Kenyatta, and the Director of Kenya Railways handed over the preliminary acceptance certificate to CRBC Chairman Lu Shan on behalf of the Owner. Moreover, both parties witnessed the arrival and container unloading of the first loaded train, marking the successful completion and handover of Nairobi Inland Container Depot (ICD).

Kenya President Kenyatta highly recognized the construction achievement currently made, and hoped that both parties could efficiently implement the Nairobi-Malarba SGR Project, vigorously promote the operation and development of Mombasa-Nairobi SGR, and launching of the Naivasha Industrial Park. Both parties further defined the construction duration of Nairobi-Malarba SGR Project (Phase I).

ICD Project Handover and Operation Launching Ceremony

CCCC Deputy Secretary Chen Yun noted that CCCC will vigorously complete the remaining works of Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Project and ICD Project, efficiently rectify the defects during defect liability period, well implement the Nairobi-Malarba SGR Project, and make all efforts to complete all the tasks as scheduled with high quality.

As an important auxiliary project for railway project in Kenya, the new Nairobi ICD is equipped with complete railway arrival & departure and handling facilities, and container handling equipment, achieving the scheduled departure and arrival of container train, shortening the delivery time, and enhancing the market competitiveness of railway transportation.

All the main cabinet ministers of Kenya attended the meeting. Among the attendees were also Li Xuhang- Commissioner of Chinese Embassy to Kenya, Economic Counselor Guo Ce, CRBC Chairman and Secretary of CPC CRBC Committee Lu Shan, Sun Liqiang- General Manager of CCCC Road, Bridge and Rail Traffic Division, Ma Xin’an- Executive General Manager of CCCC Road, Bridge and Rail Traffic Division, Cai Chuansheng- General Manager of CCCC Overseas Business Department, CRBC Deputy President Li Qiang, Li Quanhuai, Li Gang and An Aijun, the relevant officials of CRBC Project General Manager Department, as well as main principals of various construction companies.
