The 2nd CRBC Chinese Speech Contest Held at Chang’an University

On May 28, the final round of the Second Chinese Speech Contest for International Students sponsored by CRBC was successfully held at Chang’an University, which was themed with “roads and bridges connect the entire world”. Seventeen international students from Kenya, Togo, Congo-Brazzaville, Senegal, Equatorial Guinea, Pakistan and other countries along the Belt and Road shared with audiences their wonderful stories with China.

Among the attendees were Serem- Kenyan Ambassador to China, Owassa- Ambassador of Congo-Brazzaville to China, and members of the mission of other three embassies in China, CRBC Chairman Lu Shan, Chen Feng- President of Chang’an University, Guan Zhongliang- Vice President of Beijing Jiaotong University, and other principals of Southeast University and Changsha University of Science and Technology.

Funded by CRBC, all these international students are now receiving their undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Chang’an University, Beijing Jiaotong University, Southeast University and Changsha University of Technology. The speech contest is aimed to strengthen the foreign students’ understanding of the Chinese culture and demonstrate the achievements of the university-enterprise based talent cultivation. It is also an important embodiment of the implementation of the cooperation initiative of “Working Together to Deliver a Brighter Future for Belt and Road Cooperation” put forward at the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation for policy coordination, facilities connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration and people-to-people bonds.

The final round comprises the contests of primary group and senior group, with two sessions of keynote speech and talent show set. During the contest, the contestants passionately envisioned their dreams of building their hometown better after graduation, or shared their stories about learning and practice in China, or presented their deep friendship with Chinese teachers and students by their own ways, winning the affirmation of the judges and applauses from the audience.

As the Belt and Road Initiative further advances, Chinese enterprises represented by CRBC pay more attention to the realization of “soft connectivity” with the host country in people-to-people exchanges and common feelings while building “hard connectivity” including infrastructure. The Chinese enterprises not only devote themselves to becoming the trustworthy and reliable partner of the host country, but also are committed to building excellent talent training bases for common development. Up to now, CRBC has fully funded 325 overseas students from countries along the Belt and Road to learn professional knowledge in infrastructure construction in China, signed strategic cooperation agreements have been signed with Chang’an University, Beijing Jiaotong University and other universities, and jointly organized personnel training, teacher exchanges and scientific researches in the engineering field together with these universities revolving around the Belt and Road Initiative.

Lu Shan noted that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of CRBC. As one of the first state-owned enterprises that entered the international engineering contracting market and an important participant in practicing the Belt and Road Initiative, CRBC has joined hands with other countries in various sector, with fruitful results achieved, including Karakorum Highway Reconstruction Project in Pakistan, the world’s highest international highway, and Brazzaville Cable-Stayed Bridge in Congo-Brazzaville, the world’s largest span small radius and flat curve bridge, Malabo National Park in Equatorial Guinea, the largest urban park in Africa, THIES-TOUBA Toll Expressway Project in Senegal, the highest grade highway in West Africa, Togo’s National Main Road - Togo No.1 Road, and the Mombasa-Nairobi SGR, the first modern standard railway in Kenya over the past century. While undertaking all kinds of road, bridge and port projects in countries all over the world for connectivity, CRBC always devotes itself to solving local employment, speeding up technology transfer, supporting overseas students to come to China, and joining hands with the people of all countries for win-win cooperation following the principle of “technology transfer for sustainable development”.
