The First Main Pier Cable Tower of Peljesac Bridge Capped

Date: 01/14/2021

On January 8, the concrete pouring of the last section of the S5 Pier Cable Tower of the Peljesac Bridge Project in Croatia was completed, marking the successful capping of the first main pier cable tower of the bridge.

As a 40m-high rectangular solid structure, the S5 Pier Cable Tower was installed with a steel structure anchor box-type inclined cable saddle. The tower body was divided into 11 sections, and C70 / 85 self-compacting concrete was adopted in the design, with a pouring volume of about 520m3.

Due to the impact caused by the epidemic, the supply of local saddles was delayed. The project team has well organized the construction, tapped potential internally and optimized the process, and has successively overcome a number of difficulties such as the design of high-grade concrete mix ratio, the pumping of concrete pouring with a height of 100 meters, and the raw material processing, installation and precise positioning of cable saddle steel structures of stay cables in the solid rectangular structure, realizing the first successful application of high strength self-compacting concrete with high bearing capacity and anti-corrosion durability.

The successful capping of the first main pier cable tower made a good start of the bridge construction, accumulating valuable experience for the construction of other main pier cable towers, and laying a solid foundation for the hoisting of the full-bridge steel box girder and the cable-hanging construction in 2021.

The Peljesac Bridge Project in Croatia represented the largest transportation infrastructure construction project implemented by Chinese enterprises since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Croatia, and a key national livelihood project since the founding of Croatia. The completion of the bridge would realize the long-cherished wish of the Croatian people to connect the north and the south of the country, and effectively drive local economic development and personnel exchange.
