On June 16, the Commencement Ceremony of KAYONZA-RUSUMO Road Extension and Rehabilitation Project (92km) in Rwanda was successfully held. Among the attendees were representatives of the Owner (RTDA), members of the supervision group, mayor of KAYONZA, as well as representatives of local governmental departments. The commencement ceremony marks the formal earth-breaking of Kayonza-Rusumo Road, which will be completed by the end of 2019.
As a part of Kigali-Rusumo Road, the first asphalt road in Rwanda, Kayonza-Rusumo Road is the main channel connecting Rwanda with Tanzania, and undertakes nearly half of the import and export volume of Rwanda. Kigali-Rusumo Road, the first road built by China for Rwanda in 1974, was undertaken by CRBC and other contractors, and is awarded as a model road in Africa. The Government of Rwanda decided to upgrade and extend this road after over 40 years of normal use.
